Overview

Mechanical Design Engineer (Electromechanical, Medical, Solidworks) Cardiff Salary £35k - £40k My client is a growing medical devices company with a novel product that is making a significant contribution to improvements in electrosurgery. As they seek to develop a further generation of products and systems, they are entering a new phase of Research and Development and now seek an additional Mechanical Engineer to provide technical input into all aspects of design projects. Responsibilities of Position: Create and develop concepts to meet the User and Functional Requirement Specifications Produce design sketches, concepts, drawings and CAD models that are accurate and describe fully the design intent. Conduct tolerance and /or other analysis or calculation to ensure functionality, safety and ability to manufacture. Preparation of formal finalized components and assembly drawings along with corresponding BoMs. Ensure that designs are robust, and that risk is reduced as far as possible via FMEA and testing as appropriate. Working to internationally approved standards Planning, designing and executing technical feasibility, verification and validation tests. Providing expert technical input into the design transfer process from the company to its commercial suppliers. Contributing appropriate documentation for the Design History and Technical files Attend Management and Design Reviews and lead these if required. Compliance with relevant elements of the company quality management system. Working towards the achievement of the company's quality objectives. Minimum Qualifications, Competences and Experience: Graduate in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent with 5 Years’ industrial experience in a design role in a consultancy or engineering environment. Strong competence in designing electromechanical assemblies in Solid Works Experience of designing to current methods of manufacture of small-scale metal and plastic components. Detailing to BS 8888 and geometrical tolerancing. Demonstrable structured problem-solving skills (8D, Kaizen, 6 Sigma, Kepner Tregoe etc.) Capability in Finite elemental analysis (FEA) to drive design preferred Working knowledge of risk reduction techniques (e.g. DFMEA, fault tree analysis). Experience of structured product development within a controlled development environment ideally medical or aero, auto, defence, nuclear etc Experience of implementing formal change control with drawing and BoM revision. Ability to communicate clearly, both orally and via concise written documentation.
