Overview
Job Title: Electrical Design Engineer Sector: Data Centre / mission critical projects Location: UK South Due to unprecedented growth and to fulfil exciting expansion plans our client, a leading award winning data centre provider are looking to appoint an experienced Electrical Design Engineer for their Specialist Design Engineering Team. Reporting to the Design Director you will typically have experience of design for power systems from LV to EHV incorporating all associated equipments including UPS Plant, switchgear and power control/monitoring systems to British and International standards. This is an exceptional opportunity for a driven and ambitious individual with a minimum of 4 years relevant experience looking to make their next step up the career ladder, be that big fish (so to speak), take on senior levels of responsibility and carve out a key role within an innovative matrix organisation. Key Responsibilities: Delivery of technical design drawings and specifications to the required regulations and quality standards Support the team in developing designs for electrical distribution systems from EHV to LV Provide design and technical advice on projects in a discipline lead capacity Attend client / contractor / design meetings & site visits as required Be the client’s main point of contact for all technical aspects relating to the project Consider the feasibility of the project specific to the discipline and contribute to the overall feasibility study for the project Produce detailed equipment schedules for issue with the discipline specific designs Carry out detailed calculations appropriate to the discipline and review the work of others for accuracy. Site surveys, condition surveys Report any variance between installed works and the design specification Produce cable and lighting calculations via relevant software Deal with day-to-day queries from site relevant to your discipline Initiate and participate in peer design reviews Understand project costs and the impact of designs on the overall budget for the scheme Provide technical support / solutions on projects Key Skills / attributes: Qualified engineer with a least 4 years post graduate experience with (or actively working towards) CEng or IEng status Able to provide design and technical advice on projects in a discipline lead capacity Experience in the design of HV, MV, and major LV power distribution systems Strong understanding of the configuration of major electrical plant CIBSE and/or IMechE membership Multiple type project involvement / management experience A good technical breadth Ability to understand the project appointment and scope of work following a briefing from the Project Director Client / contractor / design team facing experience Able to work off your own initiative with minimal supervision Able to interpret the needs of a project to the discipline Experience in the specification, assessment and configuration of major plant Experience with system modelling, simulation and resilient system design would be advantageous. Provide input into the production of fee proposals, technical reviews/bids and audits as required Produce design programmes for both internal and external use to the client’s agreement Very focused on career progression and committed to CPD Strong team work ethic Good focus on further developing client relationships for future commissions Confident communicator able to disseminate information well to others Good report and technical writing skills A good understanding of project risk Mentoring and leadership capabilities Remuneration: Attractive remuneration package commensurate with experience plus excellent career progression opportunities.
