Overview

I am working with a growing software company in Edinburgh who are looking for a Data Science Manager to continue their Data Science Journey. The company: The organisation are looking to further build-out a small Data Science function and you will be pivotal in helping do this. They work within a very specific market and the product that they develop is very high-end. You will be working on very complicated products and will be sitting beside an experienced Software Engineering team. They are looking to hire up to 30 new people into the team over the next 6 months and this is purely due to the industry performing well and the product gaining traction. After getting to grips with the product and technology, there is flexibility on remote working too The role: You will initially be the sole Data Scientist and you will be tasked with continuing the data science work that has already been (briefly) done. You will have responsibility for the data science strategy as well as the development and management of the new function. Initially, it will just be you in the team, but after a few months you will be expected to hire more junior members into the team and have to manage and mentor them. You will work with stakeholders and teams across the business and will have a broad remit including, but not limited to responsibility for: Data Science commercial products, integrating data products into the existing software and data architecture of the company's cloud strategy. The Data Science projects you choose to undertake, will be driven from customer focused business opportunities. This really is an opportunity to make your mark on the company and have a huge say in the Data Science roadmap. You will also decide what tools and technologies to use and will need to stay up to date with modern tech. Key Skills and Experience: Senior Data Scientist with mentoring/team lead experience An MSC or PhD in Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, Operational Research or a similarly quantitative field Experience of building or being a part of a new Data Science function (preferred) Data Science programming experience i.e. R, Python, MATLAB, SQL etc Experience with Machine Learning, Statistical Analysis etc If you are interested in helping to grow this Data Science team and have backing from a modern tech company, please apply or call Hamish at Cathcart Associates.
