Overview

Established in 1894, our Law Centre is one of the oldest free legal advice services in the UK. Accredited as a Centre of Excellence we provide free expert legal advice and representation and hold Legal Aid Agency contracts in housing, welfare benefits, employment, discrimination and public law. We have two vacancies: Employment and Discrimination Law Solicitor Part-time 21 hours (3-days) per week Salary Up to £35,000 per annum pro rata and depending on experience 30 Days annual leave, plus bank holidays pro Closing date – 9th April 2020 Interviews- week beginning- 27 th April 2020 The ideal candidate will have/be: Professionally qualified as a Solicitor or Barrister with 2-4 years post qualification experience in employment and discrimination law. Demonstrable experience of working to the LEXCEL quality mark standard. Experience of providing specialist advice, assistance and representation to Claimants on all aspects of employment law including ACAS early conciliation procedures, grievance and disciplinary procedures, unfair dismissal, redundancy, TUPE, discrimination claims under the Equality Act and whistleblowing. Sound general knowledge of the law and ability to develop other areas of the law/legal expertise. Ability to manage own caseload independently, including conducting own advocacy at Employment Tribunal preliminary hearings and occasional full merits hearings, prioritising conflicting tasks, and coping with a challenging workload. This ideal candidate will have/be: Qualified as a Solicitor or Barrister with 2 years post qualification experience in Welfare Benefits Law. Experience of representing clients before Social Security Appeals Tribunal. Ability to manage own caseload independently, including conducting own advocacy at Tribunal, prioritising conflicting tasks, and coping with a challenging workload. Strong team work skills with an ability to work collegiately, and proactively contribute to the Law Centre’s development.
