Overview
Job Title: Development Manager - Electronics Salary: £47,987 to £52,604 plus a £2,623 location allowance. You will receive £47,987 the band minimum. Progress to the band maximum of £52,604 will be via incremental progression. Location: London, SE5 Create innovations to help our officers in the field As London evolves and changes, so does crime in the capital. To make sure the Met is one step ahead, we’re developing some of law enforcement’s most exciting innovations. As an Electronics Development Manager, you’ll help us bring these ground-breaking projects to life, taking each one through the development lifecycle to reach officers in the field. It’s a chance to apply your knowledge, learn new skills and help make London a safer city. In this hands-on engineering role, you’ll be exploring new ideas and concepts as part of our Technology, Research & Innovation (TRI) team. This is where we use cutting-edge technology to create solutions that will take the Met into the future. You’ll join the Electronics System Development (ESD) team, which develops bespoke electronic solutions for all kinds of briefs and issues. Here, your task will be make sure designs are fit for manufacture and take them from prototyping and testing through to operational use. As well as managing electronics design projects, you’ll develop novel ideas for new technical solutions. Add supplier meetings, team leadership and complex fault analysis, and you’ve got a role that offers tremendous variety. Experience of the design and production of electronic equipment is essential and should come with a degree or HNC/HND. This could be in any relevant discipline but will need a high level of electronics content. You should also be used to technical leadership and delivering multi-disciplined projects. With this background, you’ll know about Design for Manufacture; system/module testing; and communicating with everyone from suppliers to team members. Meanwhile, your expertise should be wide-ranging and cover at least some of the following areas: General Electronics design Audio and Video Communication and RF systems Enclosures, Materials and Manufacturing techniques 3D modelling, printing and mechanical design/manufacture PSU and Battery technologies Schematic capture and PCB design Designing for electronic/electrical safety Product evaluation and selection against specified criteria. Please note that you will be required to undertake security clearance to MVSC level. This post requires access to the most sensitive intelligence material on a daily basis. Applicants must hold or be prepared to undergo National Security Vetting (NSV) Security Check (enhanced) (SC(e)) level before taking up the post; with a willingness to undergo Developed Vetting (DV) once in post, if required. Additionally, this material is of particular sensitivity to the UK and its distribution must be restricted to UK nationals. In approved circumstances dual nationals (of which one element is British) may also be granted access. However, in the event that potential conflicts of interest cannot be managed the post holder will not be able to see the intelligence material and will not be able to perform their duties.
