Title: SEN Female Support Worker Location: Chichester, PO18 Nearest Station: Chichester Wage: £13.00 weekdays and £15.00 weekends gross per hour. £114.00 gross per night shift Sunday to Thursday and £118.00 gross per night shift Friday and Saturday Driver required? Essential, manual Use of a car? On Duty. Essential: Good standard of education, experience working with children with special needs, Non-smoker and confident swimmer Desirable: Degree or qualification in childcare / social care, experience in Education and experience with manual handling. Knowledge of Makaton would be a bonus Start Date: ASAP Days & Hours: Guaranteed 38 hours per week – 2 day shifts and one sleep in shift per week. Typical shifts are currently 8:00 am to 8.00 pm and 8.00 pm to 8.00 am. (Rota’s are issued 4 weeks in advance) Family/Client Pets: None About this client/child: Louise aged 9 is a bright and sociable girl, who is one of triplets. She loves playing board games, being in water and is home schooled. Due to a trauma at birth Louise has Cerebral palsy and developmental delay. She is a wheelchair user and hoist dependent. She is non-verbal but communicates with grid pad and Makaton signs. Overview of role: You will work with Louise in her family home and in the local community. Louise is home schooled and receives a full therapy programme including hydro which the Support Worker will be actively involved in. You should use a flexible and adaptable approach to ensure Louise can participate in age-related activities whilst allowing her to have choice and promoting her overall independence and developmental needs. The Support Worker will be joining Louise’s team of 8 carers who support her 24/7, there are always 2 members of staff on duty. Who this job would suit: This job will suit someone who is physically fit and happy to participate in a range of activities both inside and out. A good sense of humour, cheerful disposition and positive attitude are all key qualities you will need, this is especially important to keep Louise engaged during home schooling (there will also be a tutor present). You should be comfortable to work as part of a team as you will always be on duty with one other carer. A flexible and adaptable approach will be needed as Louise’s schedule can change and you should also be happy to offer additional hours. In turn you will be offered relevant training including manual handling and physiotherapy as well as working under the direction of the various therapists involved.
