THE ISLAND FREE SCHOOL Job profile: Assistant to Head of Year Contract type: Full Time 52 weeks Contract term: Permanent Starting Salary: £17, 165 The Island Free School is a small, state funded secondary school on the Isle of Wight offering a fully academic curriculum. All pupils follow the English Baccalaureate, plus three option subjects, to achieve a minimum of eight good GCSE's. We take students from all backgrounds and give them the confidence and ambition to succeed in a competitive world. To balance our academically rigourous curriculum we have invested heavily in the development of a wide ranging extra-curricular programme. Our vision is of a comprehensive grammar school: a school that combines the rigour and standards of an old fashioned grammar school with a genuinely comprehensive intake. This vision has proved popular with local parents and the school is oversubscribed. We seek to appoint a professional, personable and efficient Assistant to the Head of Year with the necessary skills to work with the Head of Year to support our pupils. This is an exciting opportunity for the right individual to join an outstanding team and play a key role in the continued development of our outstanding learning environment. The successful candidate must: Have sound communication and administrative skills Understand the requirements of confidentiality. Have an appetite for learning and development. Be passionate about education. Have an organised and methodical approach. Be a facilitator. Be a problem solver. The successful candidate will be expected to undertake the following tasks as a minimum: Establish and ensure effective management of records having regard to confidentiality and accuracy. Including MIS and use of Microsoft Excel and Word. Act as the first point of contact for parents of pupils in the year group and build and maintain relationships with families Monitor attendance and punctuality of the year group including calls home. Report concerns to HOY and work with HOY, mentors, parents and pupils to improve overall attendance. Provide a full administrative support function to the HOY as directed Assist with the production of reports and data for the year group Assist with the organisation of Parent Meetings/Open Days and other calendared events as directed by the HOY, attend parent mentor meetings. Organise and attend meetings as directed by the HOY including attendance at professionals meetings regarding pupils in the year group. Provide pastoral support to pupils as required Provide support in lessons, and engage in morning and afternoon duties as required Support intervention activities when appropriate Support and participate in enrichment activities Ensure Child Protection issues are passed to the named person/s and always to act within the school safeguarding and child protection policy Collate and provide work for pupils working individually as necessary Be willing to engage with pupils, families, outside agencies, teaching and non teaching staff to ensure outstanding outcomes for pupils Be willing to attend appropriate training courses as directed by the HOY Work to promote the ethos of the school Please note this position is full time NOT term time only.
