Overview

Job Title: Personal Assistant Location: Chichester Hourly rate: £12 Reference: NDS6904 Hours/shifts: 36 hours - 12 noon - 6pm. Weekdays /Weekends. Days and hours can be flexible. Job share will be considered. Summary • I am looking for Personal Assistants (PA’s), either male or female, to support my 22 year old Polish daughter with day to day routines and activities in order to allow me to have some respite. • My daughter has Juvenile Huntington’s Disease, which affects her speech and general ability to communicate. When anxious or frustrated, my daughter can display challenging behavior. The PA will ideally have an interest, understanding or experience of working with Huntington’s disease or would be willing to learning. • My daughter has a cheeky sense of humor and likes watching films, eating ice creams and playing with her dog. • The PA will be expected to carry out some domestic tasks and personal care tasks and support my daughter to have more independence. • Ideal applicant will be a Polish and English speaker to communicate with my daughter but also support me with correspondence and some administrative tasks. Other Requirements • Must be comfortable with pets • Must be happy to work in a smoking environment • Other : All applicants must be willing to undertake an Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service check Successful applicants will be entitled to Holiday pay and will be issued employment contracts. Description Typical duties Domestic - General housework, including cleaning. Preparing drinks, snacks and meals. Pick up medication from the doctors when required. Shopping if required Correspondence e.g. reading letters, help writing replies, form-filling, assisting with household paperwork Making phone calls on my behalf if required. Personal Care: • Assistance with bathing, washing and drying hair as required. • Personal grooming such as hair brushing. • Dressing and undressing when required. Social: Whilst on duty at my home watching TV with my daughter and assisting with activities of choice i.e playing with the dog. Person specification The successful applicant will be: • Ideally have knowledge or experience of Huntington’s disease or is willing to learn. Training can be provided. • Be Polish and English speaking. • Able to tolerate the employer smoking in the work place • Ideally have access to a car with a valid UK driving license. • Respectful of the employer’s privacy and confidentiality • Reliable with good time-keeping • Able to both follow instructions and work on own initiative • Hygienic, tidy minded and well organised • Fit and healthy to undertake the required duties • Patience and possess excellent interpersonal skills • Honest, cheerful and creative • Legally permitted to work in the United Kingdom • Able to work at all times to high standards of Health & Safety Please note, if you are successful in your application for this position you will be employed directly by the individual employer and not Independent Lives
