Overview
Contek are working with an Engineering Client in Gloucester - who provide various Welding and Fabrication services to varied sectors including Nuclear and Defence. They are expanding the team and looking for an experienced Sales Engineer to join the team. The working h ours are 7.30am-4pm Monday-Thursday, and 7.30-1.30pm on Friday, though it will be more variable for this role predominantly being on the road and some time in the office. JOB SUMMARY: This position is critical to developing and maintaining strong working relationships between my client and its new and existing clients. The role requires close liaison with colleagues in the Estimating and Projects offices to ensure all sales opportunities are seized, and that a unified and professional image is presented to customers. The role will involve regular visits to clients within the agreed geographical area, with a strong emphasis on securing new business within our established markets of Oil & Gas and Petrochemical, but also from their emerging and new markets such as Nuclear and Defence. The prime function of the role will be to secure enquiries from target markets and convert the subsequent quotations into profitable business. MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Take responsibility for the achievement of agreed revenue and margin targets. Maintain regular contact with existing clients. Regular visits will be required to all clients and potential clients within the agreed area. Establish and maintain strong business relationships with clients within existing and new markets. Must be comfortable dealing with client personnel at all levels from board room to shop floor. Use own knowledge and in-house technical resource to provide advice to clients. Plan and execute an agreed number of customer visits per week. Ensure quotations are followed up and feedback is noted to the company CRM system. Liaise with estimating office to ensure timely and accurate quotations to clients Liaise with projects office to ensure client projects are on schedule, and to ensure further scope and ongoing business is secured. Carry out market research on both existing and new markets. Actively seek out new market sectors, particularly (but not limited to) Nuclear and Defence. Maintain an up to date prospect list and report to the Managing Director on a weekly basis on outstanding enquiries, anticipated future orders and outcomes of all enquiries. Prepare and deliver presentations relative to key markets. Arrange, host and conduct client visits to company. Attend exhibitions both as an exhibitor and an attendee within the UK and overseas. Attend seminars and networking events relevant to chosen market sectors. Gather and maintain current intelligence related to our competitors. Review and agree personal development objectives with your line manager. The role is based predominantly in the UK. However some foreign travel may be required from time to time, mainly in Europe but possibly further afield as well. KEY INTERFACES · Clients – Conducting sales visits at all levels, boardroom, engineering and procurement personnel. · Estimating Team – ensuring full scope of customer requirements are understood, and profitability is maximised. · Projects Team – ensuring project managers understand the full implications, both technical and commercial, of each job. · Production Team – liaising with scheduling team to ensure accurate lead times are given to customers. · Quality Team – ensuring that client issues are dealt with appropriately, facilitating client audits and quality requirements as appropriate. · Welding Engineering Team – ensuring that clients receive the correct level of technical support, advising on client technical/specification-related trends as they emerge. · Finance Team – negotiating client payment terms, ensuring clients’ credit accounts are kept up-to-date.
