Overview

Merje are partnered with a leading UK Insurer in their search for an exceptional pricing and data science professional. This role will sit within the Retail Pricing who are responsible for developing and delivering the business’ street pricing strategy, driving commercial performance whilst ensuring fair customer outcomes. This team of pricing, data science and analytics experts set prices that maximise the value generated through customer acquisition and retention by using advanced machine learning, statistical and optimisation techniques to model both customer behaviour and the dynamic, highly competitive UK price comparison market that they operate in. Pricing & Data Science Managers are key leaders within this team, working with an experienced team of pricing analysts and data scientists to deliver optimised street prices that meet business needs, as well as shaping the development of pricing strategy. Your new role: Reviewing the data, analytical and modelling outputs of the team, to ensure our standards are met; diving into the code and getting your hands dirty when needed Managing the development of our pricing algorithm and delivering new price optimisations, in consultation with our stakeholders Keeping up to date with the latest thinking in the business, industry and data science arena; coming up with new ideas for test & learn, to inform and evolve our street pricing strategy Foster a culture of treating customers fairly, ensuring we follow internal governance processes and adhere to regulatory requirements Our Ideal candidate: Has great ideas and sets the agenda Creative thinker and problem solver as this business always has new challenges Cares about the detail - because small errors can have big impacts Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment - organisation and multi-tasking are key Hungry for knowledge - always seeking to learn, develop and come up with new ideas Communicates effectively - because our stakeholders don’t always get it Be a fast learner to understand our business, its value drivers and the wider industry context Have a customer focus to both spot profit opportunities and do the right thing Think creatively to solve business problems with data-led insight and approaches Love sharing your ideas and storytelling to engage and enthuse our stakeholders Embrace flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and get the best out of a diverse team of specialists The essentials: Degree (Masters preferred) in a numerical discipline (e.g. mathematics, sciences, engineering, computing) 4 years working in a pricing, analytical, modelling or data science role SQL and experience working with large or complex datasets R/Python/Matlab or coding statistical methods in other languages Practical predictive modelling experience, whether statistical (e.g. GLM) or machine learning Mentoring/training, project or line management of junior colleagues Also desirable PhD with a substantial mathematical/statistical element 1-2 years line management of an analytical team Insurance industry/actuarial experience Experience with Radar, Earnix or other specialist pricing software Practicalities of deploying models into production environments (e.g. XML, POJO, PMML) Knowledge of version control and automation tools (e.g. GIT, Jenkins) Working in a regulated industry and familiarity with governance processes Please note, should you not receive feedback within 28 days, unfortunately your application has been unsuccessful.
