R&D Workshop Manager (Electromechanical Engineering) Defined career path to Senior Management / Operations Level North Fife, Scotland Our client based in North Fife business is a well-established and fully self-sufficient in that it designs, develops and supports its unique engineered products to an International customer base. It’s senior professionals are experienced mechanical and electronic engineers, software engineer’s veterans of working across all marine sectors from wet renewables, civil engineering, infrastructure, oil and gas and decommissioning to government, defence, and scientific research and development. Reporting directly to the site lead you will be in charge of managing the delivery of all technical projects – Including oversight of electronic, mechanical, software areas. As the role develops the business is seeking to develop a “Makers Corner” service to other local Start Up / SME businesses. From a technical perspective, the role holder will need to have a hands on, broad knowledge of electronics, mechanics and software engineering (although not necessarily a deep expertise in all 3). You will need to understand how everything works together as the role will oversee all areas product development and manufacture The role holder must be adaptable to change and able to handle ever changing priorities in line with client requirements and will be expected to hold technical conversations both internally and externally . Main Responsibilities and tasks Manage design and manufacturing technicians in the fields of electronics, mechanics and software. Assume product design responsibilities and lead a cross-functional team through all stages of product development Understand complex mechanical, electronic and software systems. Develop solutions to design problems through the application of engineering principles Proactively anticipate technical issues and with input from the project team, create and execute project plans to meet team objectives. Design prototypes for proof of concept Manage departmental expenditure and personnel resources. Ensure projects are executed properly & achieve market success Skills and Experience Ideally you will be Degree educated in relevant Engineering disciplines or posses equivalent hand son industry experience. Professional Skills Minimum 5 years leading a development team Strong understanding and experience of Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA) or practical skills in simplifying product designs to reduce costs of components, manufacturing or assembly. Solid understanding of product engineering and CAD design and analysis tools such as Solid Works Ability to create project budgets, or to take costs into consideration during the design stage. Good understanding of manufacturing processes in low-medium quantity applications with emphasis on innovative approaches to improve quality, assembly, and efficiency Experienced in Project Management Proven ability to lead small teams to meet desired results, and a team player. Personal Skills Excellent customer facing communication skills Excited about being a key team member making a direct and positive impact.
