Overview

So you got your Psychology degree? Check. Next step – join a national mental health charity who develop their people (through qualifications, individual learning, along with management / leadership training). You will be working at a mental health project with people who have been discharged from hospital, who need extra support to develop and move on (usually within 2 years) into their own accommodation with the skills to become independent. Each day you will help clients to engage in community life. You will help give them confidence and motivation to recover. And will support them to develop the skills to look after themselves around finance, being able to cook, budget, get along in the work place and manage their emotions. The project has around 30 residents who all live on site. You will work as part of a team, supporting the residents as a whole, but also key working 2 clients at a time. This position is shift based as follows: 37.5 hours a week 2 weekends off a month Shift patterns are 7.30am – 3.30pm / 2pm – 10.00 pm 1 – 2 x waking night shift per month 10pm – 8.30 am (an extra £15.00 an hour on top, so £150 a month extra) 1 x sleeping shift per month, 10pm – 8.30 am (an extra £78.30 per month) As well as being a Psychology graduate, ideally you will have some voluntary experience (if not work experience).
