Job Description JOB DESCRIPTION: Production Assistant Reports to: Head of Design and Estimator This is a fantastic opportunity to join our vibrant studio in a key role within the organisation. At Bill Amberg Studio, we have been exploring the material and aesthetic possibilities of leather for over 30 years. We are a pioneering, ever-curious and unconventional group of designers and craftspeople, driven by the desire to push the boundaries of leatherworking in new directions, and to create objects and interiors with style and longevity. ROLE PURPOSE To manage all projects ensuring delivery within the agreed timescales, budgets and quality. The role requires managing the workshop staff, liaising directly with clients, suppliers, and site staff, as well as working closely with the Design Department, the Estimator and the Finance Director. SCOPE Assist in the management of the small team of leather workers, schedule for each project, ensuring completion as per the agreed timescale and recording timesheets. Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors assigned to the project. Ensure purchase orders in Excel have been raised and assist in the ordering process of all items/materials necessary to complete a project Inform the Finance Department when to invoice the clients and when to pay the suppliers Assist in checking the quality and suitability of leather/materials received (with assistance from the design team) Ensure all projects are compliant with Health & Safety regulations. QC all finished work completed by both the workshop and by external manufacturers (With assistance from the design team) Liaise with clients to ensure that they are regularly kept up to date as to a project’s progress Ensure the leatherworkers have a clear understanding of each project Attend site meetings where necessary to discuss projects with contractors or designers Support the designers in planning for future projects and organising samples Office admin including answering the phone and greeting visitors prior to meetings (this responsibility is shared by all staff members) ACCOUNTABILITIES To ensure projects are delivered on time and to customer satisfaction To ensure projects meet their projected profitability KNOWLEDGE/SKILL/EXPERIENCE Previous experience of project management preferably from a workshop is desirable but not essential Highly organised and capable of multitasking under pressure Good communication, customer service and people management skills Must be proficient in Excel and Word Must have a clean driving license and be willing to drive a Transit van around London and the rest of the UK when required The ideal candidate would be somebody interested in working in a small, design workshop, who would enjoy a varied range of projects from bag production to handrail installations, bespoke furniture and flooring. The atmosphere is relaxed but the position would suit somebody who enjoys rolling up his/her sleeves and take pride in the successful completion of projects.
