Principal Engineer - Assurance
Overview
Engineering Assurance You will have the opportunity to oversee and assure engineering activities for critical systems and products that help the Royal Navy sailors perform their jobs properly at sea in submarines and maintain our defence and national security. Using your understanding of appropriate regulations, standards, policies and engineering best practice you will help to ensure our submarine complex systems and combat sub‑systems are designed and supported in a safe and secure manner, whilst meeting the necessary performance requirements and standards. You will work with other technical specialists and alongside our engineering delivery teams throughout all stages of the product lifecycle to assure the design, documentation, production, delivery and through-life support of the products and services that we deliver. Your main responsibilities in Engineering Assurance will involve: Understanding the combat system, sub-system or specialist engineering discipline with sufficient expertise to be able to review deliverables from the project engineering teams and provide feedback, guidance and advise on areas for improvement. Advising programme managers and other stakeholders on the work that has been completed, planning for future tasks and potential impacts on risks based on assessments and reviews that you will undertake. Supporting business and technical improvement activities. Providing technical guidance and to other engineers and supporting project and engineer management teams in planning and controlling your specialist activities. Your skills and qualifications: Essential: Degree level qualification (or equivalent experience) in relevant STEM subject (Engineering/ Physics/ Maths/ Science). Knowledge of the system engineering lifecycle and be able to apply good systems engineering practices to your work Understanding of relevant engineering standards, including safety and environmental regulations Desirable: Experience of working in a customer-facing and/or supplier engagement role. Member of appropriate professional institution; Chartered Engineer or working towards Chartership.
