Overview

My client in Heston are looking for a Customs Director who can assure customs compliance when submitting all types of customs clearance entries according to the correct procedure, Initiate and support key customs projects and maintain cost effective work practices. Duties include but may not be limited to: Manages and is responsible for all Customs clearances on behalf of the Company. Manage customs declarations in relation to customs rules and regulations. Initiate and support key customs projects ensuring compliance. Maintain of AEO, MoU, Customs guarantees. Review and maintain Work Instructions and SOPs Seek continuous improvement. Ensure claims for refund of Duties and taxes are submitted in a timely manner. Have comprehensive knowledge of the Trade Tariff Prepare for any customs audits. Calculate and process duties and taxes to be paid May be required to sign documents under a Power of Attorney/Empowerment Form on behalf of clients. Liaise with Customers. Allocate the correct licence depending on type of goods being imported. Liaise with officials in various agencies in relation to customs clearance. Liaise with other departments to arrange for transportation, warehousing or product distribution of imported or exported goods and liaise with Freight Forwarders. Supervisory and managerial responsibilities: Have experience of managing a small team. Develop and motivate members of the team through excellent leadership skills. Ensure the team are fully aware of customs requirements. Communicate changes to any procedure, customs rules and regulations. Undertake staff appraisals. Knowledge and skills required: Requires a minimum of 5 years’ experience as Import/Export Customs Manager. Strong knowledge of various software being used in the industry that are all aimed at supporting/facilitating the overall clearance process (SEQUOIA, NCTS and CHIEF to name a few) Requires previous experience working in a similar role A thorough understanding of the law, customs regulations and agency rules. Be fully conversant with import/export laws and regulations. You will be expected to maintain your understanding and keep up to date with changes as they occur, so as to be able to advise customers on import, export, tariff systems, and all other customs related matters. Strong communication skills are vital in this role both written and verbally, as you will be required to compile documentation and you must be able to interpret the law on behalf of customers in a clear and simple manner. Excellent interpersonal skills are required in this role as you will be dealing with various agencies in the course of your daily work. Complex problem solving and the ability to engage in critical thinking discussions as required Ability to actively listen and interpret concisely. Self-motivating and be able to organise their work effectively and maintain records. Computer literate in programs such as Windows and any other software that is standard within the industry. Strong organisational and leadership skills Excellent communication and influencing skills, with the ability to liaise at all levels Demonstrate the ability to work as part of a team and as a self-motivated individual Perform under pressure and operate in a fast paced environment, maintaining the ability to meet deadlines Numerate/Good attention to detail.
