Overview

We are looking for someone with a passion and desire to further advancements in Nuclear technology to join our team at the Nuclear Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (Nuclear AMRC). The Nuclear AMRC is a collaboration of academic and industrial partners from across the nuclear supply chain, with the mission of helping UK manufacturers win work at home and worldwide. Our applied manufacturing research is underpinned by the nuclear and materials technology expertise of The University of Manchester Dalton Nuclear Institute. In the role of Assistant Research Engineer, you play a key part in assisting the project team, working closely with Research Engineers, Technical Leads, Researchers and experienced engineers to help deliver research projects of duration typically between 1 to 12 months. You will assist with projects that will be broadly focused on the manufacturing processes to improve quality, capability and robustness during manufacture and potentially reduce the cost of production of nuclear related modules, pumps, valves and associated components. Projects range from research into new materials, control, automation, metrology and machining dynamics, to develop and demonstrate robust and world-leading methods of manufacture. The role requires that you: • are working towards a degree in a relevant engineering discipline • are enthusiastic about engineering, willingness to learn new skills and technology. • have effective communication skills, both written and verbal, and report writing skills. • have an ability to develop creative approaches to problem solving.
