Role: Senior/Principal Civil Engineer Location: Birmingham Salary: £50-58K This consultancy is currently seeking a Senior Civil Engineer which for us would normally mean Chartered (although this is not essential) to be based in Birmingham. You will responsible for and undertake the design or elements of design for drainage, highways and connecting infrastructure for our building developments. We manage everything up to our property boundaries and a bit more. We need someone with a background in highways or drainage with the flexibility to work on both. You will be responsible for the mentoring and support of our more junior engineers whilst you manage your own projects and contribute to larger schemes. As well as taking on engineering challenges relating to calculations and design you will also project manage and drive forward various civil infrastructure projects related to commercial, residential and transportation developments. About Our Team: We are experts in drainage, earthworks, pavement and highway design. We are a medium sized time with a good depth of experience. we work closely with each other in a similar way to smaller consultancies, but we have the support and pipeline of a much larger business. We are not just a standalone office we are closely joined with our Nottingham team so are able to share resource and manage a larger number of projects. We are involved in the design of some interesting projects including temporary works relating to motor sports, large residential developments such as Milton Keynes Western expansion, S278 works and various large scale mixed-use and commercial developments nationwide. Job Responsibilities: Undertake civil infrastructure design and design management. Depending on project scale and with appropriate supervision either manage or contribute to the management of the technical, financial and management requirements of development related infrastructure projects (including planning, control and monitoring from feasibility through to detailed design phase and construction support). Play an active part in the project assurance process, including taking part in technical reviews. Provide a client-focused service which results in on-going satisfaction and repeat business. Build effective relationships within teams, across the organisation. Mentor junior staff and take a proactive interest in personal and team development and manage a small team. Support work-winning initiatives, including the preparation and management of project budgets & programmes. Contribute to developing the company's business including technical skills development. Minimum Requirements Relevant degree or professional qualification Work experience within a similar consultancy or other relevant business Preferred Qualifications A clear work history and proof of professional development and learning Ideally you will live locally to the office or be willing to relocate To understand and have experience of the MCHW, DMRB, MfS and local authority design guidance. A detailed knowledge of road design using 3D computer modelling packages, such as Civil 3D. Detailed knowledge of drainage design including piped systems, SuDS based systems and familiarity with storage design and computer programs such as MicroDrainage. Experienced in the preparation of contract drawings and specifications and the negotiation of Section 38 and 278 Agreements for highway works, 104 and 106 Agreements for sewers and also utilities work experience.
