Role Overview The role of the Business Analyst is to analyse areas of business activity, either existing or future requirements to document business processes and systems and assess business models and its integration with technology. The role involves liaising with internal stakeholders and external customers to understand structure, policies and operations and to recommend solutions that best enable SSCL and our customers achieve their goals The BA has no line management responsibility. The Business Analysts will be expected to lead teams as necessary to deliver the project outputs identified above, providing task leadership to small teams. Key Responsibilities The Business Analyst forms a critical bridge between the operational business and the technical teams. The effectiveness of the solutions and projects implemented to improve the business is dependent upon the quality of the analysis skills of the BA The investment decisions taken in implementing changes are heavily impacted by the quality and objectivity of the options appraisals and feasibility studies conducted by the BA As one of the early activities in the change process, effective business analysis is essential to minimising the costs of change as the cost of correcting problems during projects increases significantly as projects progress The Business Analyst will have lead responsibility for the above activities on change projects which impact whole departments, and as part of a team on major change projects Conduct interviews and requirements workshops, and critically analyse and shape business needs in order to document and agree business requirements. Producing functional and non-functional requirements e.g. data models, use case scenarios etc to inform the design of business, data and system architecture Documentation and modelling of both ‘as-is’ and ‘to-be’ processes Conducting feasibility studies to appraise options for addressing business needs, the business case for the different options and recommendation of best option Project/programme customers/stakeholders and project colleagues. Work with other colleagues to ensure project requirements, are integrated and or aligned with related developments across the organisation Ability to translate complicated ideas regarding change to different audiences, ensuring that key data and information is conveyed accurately and succinctly Demonstrate the ability to positively influence stakeholders at an operational and middle-management level Sound interpersonal skills to maintain an effective working relationship with supplier(s) and other external actors, contributing towards achieving targeted development and delivery objectives to time, quality and cost criteria Ability to make effective decisions on operational matters using a logical approach, examining a range of data and information sources Able to make effective decisions when designing and implementing information gathering approach, information recording mechanisms, related project outputs,stakeholder engagements and communication method Support the decision making approach on designing projects and or programmes, offering critical insight on elements including how objectives, priorities, timescales and outputs will link and what activities will be involved Support the decisions surrounding the planning and execution of project and programme activities, as required Particular scrutiny over factors that might jeopardise the critical path associated with achieving project or programme objectives (including risks and or threats) and decisions on whether to resolve operationally or escalate Make decisions that will impact the successful scoping, development and ongoing completion of project/programme activity to ensure they meet Executive / Board and customer / stakeholder expectation Essential Skills Demonstrable experience in working across a number of business areas, maintaining a collaborative professional approach with colleagues to deliver tangible ositive outcomes for the business. Demonstrable experience in working effectively with customers and stakeholders at both operational and strategic levels, maintaining a positive, respectful and collaborative approach at all times. Demonstrable ability to produce high quality, accurate and timely documents for customers/stakeholders. Demonstrable written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrable interpersonal and well developed influencing skills. Fully conversant with Microsoft Office Programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Access). Educational achievement or equivalent experience to higher education level (minimum HBTEC / A -levels) in business/ICT or equivalent experience. Either qualified, or willing to work towards becoming qualified, business analyst to a recognised industry standard. Experience in conducting effective business analysis within change/transformation projects/programmes. Desirable Skills Project Management qualification. Financial management experience/knowledge. Demonstrable experience of working on project/programmes in large complex organisations, and the ability to demonstrate how activity contributed to the initiative’s success.
