Overview

Axon Moore is exclusively recruiting a Group Financial Controller on behalf of a private equity-backed company that is a UK market leader in the service sector based in Greater Manchester. There is potential to support flexible working or a part-time candidate. Currently turning over £300m (£50m EBITDA), the company has grown significantly by acquisition in recent years, to become a market leader in a short space of time. As the business enters a pivotal time in the execution of its strategy there is a finance transformation underway following the integration of 8 major acquisitions with a real desire to further develop MI alongside the operational management team. The business is looking to hire a technically strong, experienced Financial Controller in this strategically important role. Responsible for the management of the central accounting team (c.10 FTE), the remit is broad, covering all core accounting processes that underpin the statutory and management accounts, tax returns and other regulatory returns. Reporting directly into the Finance Director, responsibilities will include: Partner with senior management/stakeholders both within finance and the wider business to understand the business activity, risks, and opportunities in order to report and forecast the full picture, producing meaningful Management Information Lead, manage, motivate a team of accountants (3 direct reports, 10 FTEs overall), whilst influencing the wider finance function and leading by example Consolidation of budgets and short-term forecasts to meet the needs of the business Ensure the preparation of timely and accurate monthly management accounts and reports for operational management and Board Report and influence the working capital components of the Group with specific attention to stock, debtors and cash balances Monthly balance sheet forecasting Accuracy of all journals and final GL balances Working with internal stakeholders, specifically across Finance to ensure timely, insightful and accurate monthly management information to agreed timelines Preparation of accounts to meet internal and statutory requirements Deliver effective financial management & controls across the organisation Review and update, in line with good practice, the Group’s internal control environment and produce a Controls and Procedures manual for review and adoption by management Periodic reporting to the Group’s Audit Committee explaining the processes adopted and undertaken by management to keep under regular review the effectiveness of internal controls covering financial, operational & compliance controls Consolidation of budgets, forecasts and the continued monitoring & review of performance against them to enable robust reporting of variances to the Finance Directors, Board, and third-party stakeholders Business partner to support services, crucially in managing the central overheads and oversight of payroll reporting and forecasting This role would suit a technically strong, experienced Financial Controller with significant experience managing people and change.
