Job Tittle: Residential Licensing Officer Location: Harrow, HA1 2XY Employer: Pertemps Recruitment for Harrow Council Contract Type: Temp / Full time Pay rate: £17.91 per hour A fantastic opportunity has arisen within Harrow Council for an experienced, self-motivated Residential Support Work to join our team on a temporary assignment. The successful applicant will car carry out the duties of a Residential Licensing Officer, involving enforcement, advisory and educational activities covered primarily under the Housing Acts and associated regulations with regards licensing of residential premises. Role Purpose - Ensure that residential premises are subject to inspection, compliance and enforcement where necessary in line with Residential Licensing Legislation - Investigate, inspect and take all necessary follow up action to ensure residential premises subject to a licensing regime are fit and safe for habitation - To demonstrate a commitment to the Council's Equal Opportunities Policy and the ability to understand and implement the policy in relation to the job responsibilities - To ensure compliance with your responsibilities as laid out in the council's health and safety policy and take an active role in promoting a positive health and safety culture. - To promote and participate in the council's individual performance appraisal and development initiatives and information management best practice. - To ensure compliance with the council's information security policies and maintain confidentiality. Key Skills and Experience required: - A working knowledge of residential licensing legislation and requirements the ability to demonstrate a specialist working and up to date knowledge and application of legislation in this area - A working knowledge of relevant Health, Safety and Welfare legislation and approved Codes of Practices - Understanding of the political context and environment of Local Government - Experience as an Officer in Residential Licensing / Private Sector Housing Enforcement including conducting enforcement - Experience of working with a range of stakeholders from public, private and third sector organisations - Experience in the investigation and preparation and presentation of cases for enforcement or prevention activities - Hold a Housing Health & Safety Rating Scheme qualification to allow inspection under HHSRS - Hold a recognised formal qualification in the associated area (e.g. Environmental Health) OR substantial experience of a minimum of 2 years in residential / private sector housing enforcement
