Overview

Five Education is working with a specialist provision in South Gloucestershire who are looking for dedicated learning support assistants to work with primary aged children with high needs. All of the children in this setting have an EHCP where the main need is Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs (SEMH). This setting uses the THRIVE approach, a therapeutic approach to help support children with their emotional and social development This role is to start in September but there is a chance it could begin early if the schools return before the start of the academic year. You will need to be an empathetic and confident candidate who can work with children who may be disengaged from education, struggle with social settings or who have had a history of trauma and/ or adverse childhood experiences (ACES). They work in very small classes and not all students work to the expected National Curriculum levels, there will be some working at P Levels. Education in this setting is taken at a child-friendly pace and the supportive staff team work hard to make them feel comfortable in an educational setting. Candidates with experience using Augmentative and alternative communication methods (AAC) such as Makaton, Signalong and PECS are encouraged to apply. Essential Criteria: A teaching assistant qualification (or similar - candidates with qualifications in education, youth/social work and counselling are welcome to apply) At least 12 months of recent teaching assistant or similar experience Experience teaching or supporting children with SEMH A flexible and resourceful approach You will need to have strong communication skills You will be able to demonstrate positive reinforcement Strong behaviour management skills Have a right to work in the UK (A Valid Visa) Two recent child based references and relevant DBS/Police checks Five Education is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all of the staff we employ to share this commitment.
