Overview

We are seeking an experienced Bridge Design Engineer to work for a busy consultancy in Cardiff. Job role: ·Provide technical input for the conceptual, preliminary and detailed design of highway works. ·Work in close collaboration with the wider project team and other civil engineering disciplines ·Deliver significant elements of the detailed design, and manage outputs from technicians and junior staff, to achieve the optimum solution for the project ·Liaise with contractors and supervise works on site when required ·Have experience of 3D modelling and design using appropriate software ·Provide technical guidance and support to colleagues in a team environment Duties/Responsibilities: ·Produce design calculations, drawings and technical reports for internal and external project teams including clients ·Undertake design for civil structures in accordance with appropriate design standards (Eurocodes, DMRB, etc.) ·Carry out computer analysis of civil structures using appropriate software ·Deliver designs within the clients BIM processes. ·Prepare contract documents for tender processes ·Prepare budgets and undertake monitoring and reporting to ensure deliverables are carried out within agreed timescales and budgets ·Attend design coordination meetings with external project teams including clients ·Prepare survey drawing and specifications for survey work and review outputs ·Ensure solutions meet client needs and that their expectations are met / exceeded Person specification: ·Current experience of highway bridge design (including within a design and build environment preferred but not essential) ·Genuine interest in bridge design demonstrated by pride in your work ·Good verbal and written communication ·Competency with structural analysis techniques (LUSAS, Autodesk Structural Bridge Design preferred but not essential), good working knowledge of MS Excel & AutoCAD ·Appreciation of the implications of works on the environment and knowledge of sustainable construction practices ·Knowledge of utilities provision, diversions and construction practices ·Capability of working using own initiative without supervision ·Experience leading junior team members ·Good problem solving/contingency planning skills with ability to find quick, innovative and practical solutions, enjoys focusing on the detail and undertaking analysis and calculation ·Experience of preparing fee estimates and proposals ·Enthusiasm for mentoring and development of others and motivation for personal development. ·Time management and ability to organise and prioritise workload Professional Membership and Qualification: MSc/MEng in civil engineering or an equivalent discipline BEng, HND or HNC in civil engineering also considered depending on experience For more information, click APPLY NOW or call Evan Brookes on.
