KS4 SEN Teacher - ASD, SLD, PMLD Consistently good-outstanding school London Borough of Barnet Excellent Training in School 3/4 Learning Assistants per class Full Time Position Long Term Contract April Start The School This SEN secondary school in Barnet is looking for a qualified SEN Teacher to join their excellent team of staff from September. The school caters for children aged 11-19 with Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD) and Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD). The school has been consistently rated by Ofsted as Good-Outstanding and holds numerous awards for its excellence. The school is located in the heart of Barnet within a short walk of the train station and with a number of bus stops outside, the site is easily accessible by public transport. Facilities at the school include a hydrotherapy pool, soft play cabin, music therapy room and library. Senior leadership at the school have been praised for their promotion of effective teachers throughout the year and there are plenty of opportunities to progress, whether you're a teacher or TA. The SEN Teacher Role You would be planning and delivering a range of lessons at P levels to a class of up to 6 students with a team of 3 to 4 learning support assistants. At this level, subjects you would be teaching include Numeracy, Literacy, ICT, PSHE and PE. You would need to be able to differentiate lessons to cater for each student's specific needs and monitor their progress using individual learning plans in order to provide regular feedback to parents, guardians and therapists. Some children at this school would have severe social and emotional disabilities and you would be encouraging children to interact with each other and with others around the school. You would be preparing students to act independently and build positive and supportive relationships. The Candidate Due to the needs of the children at this school, experience in using speech, language and communication aids would be desirable, however the school provides excellent training in Makaton and PECS to all new staff. In addition to this, the school trains each staff in Team Teach restraint training. The successful candidate would have prior experience in working with children with severe learning difficulties and be positive, flexible and enthusiastic. Children at this school may exhibit challenging and difficult behaviour and so experience in working with children with these needs would be advantageous.
