Temporary / Locum Childcare Solicitor / Child Law Lawyer/ Family Children - Public Sector- Greater Manchester Your new company A large and reputable Local Authority is seeking a qualified solicitor / barrister / CILEx / caseworker to join their large family and childcare department on a temporary basis for 3-6 months with good prospects of the role being extended. You will conduct your own advocacy on child care matters. Your new role As an in-house family and childcare solicitor or caseworker you would manage your own caseload of public childcare matters, be expected to give advice to Social Services under the Children Act 1989, attend court hearings to conduct your own advocacy and take part in children proceedings and deal with some family law casework. As a legal counsel to the organisation, you may provide legal advice and support to colleagues within other departments of the organisation. Drafting orders, negotiating, legal research, advocacy, liaising with third parties and taking part in internal conferences are all part of this exciting role. A motivated and committed lawyer will thrive working within a high calibre legal team. You will need a positive approach to finding solutions to complex problems and have good appreciation of risk management / the ability to work flexibly across a multi skilled team. Face to face interviews will be held as soon as practicable and the start date is end of March 2020. Working and progressing caseload relating to child care and social services law and specialising in care proceedings including taking new instructions, conducting legal research and advocacy when necessary. You will hit the ground running with a caseload of predominantly child care matters, where you will be dealing with parents, relatives, guardians, social workers and other experts in childcare proceedings. You will have responsibility for, will develop and deal with a caseload of Child Care work and may need to advice on other children and family matters including small or complex transactions. Casework includes PLO, SGO and adoption matters The caseload will mainly be handling care proceedings as well as others like non-accidental injuries and cases with an international element, acting for all sorts of clients including children, parents and/or families. To assist other members of the council with current legislation. What you'll need to succeed Welcoming applications from qualified solicitors / barristers /FCILEx / qualified legal advisors / paralegals / counsel who have significant experience in children law matters, and those who are keen to work in a large public-sector organisation with the ability to hit the ground running. You will need to conduct your own advocacy, understand and assimilate information quickly, provide sound legal advice and develop strong professional relationships. Strong advocacy, negotiating and advisory skills and competence with IT and case management systems is essential. Local Authority background or experience of working within a public-sector organisation or any local government legal experience will be highly desirable. You must have good analytical skills, good research skills, excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, excellent drafting and legal research skills, with a record of working to high professional standards. What you'll get in return This is an interesting and exciting role paying a competitive hourly rate of between £30 - £50 per hour depending on experience. It is a contract role; a temporary basis for 3-6 months, with good prospects of the role being extended.
