More about the Assistant Payroll Manager role: We have exciting opportunity for an experienced Assistant Payroll Manager to join our busy and established Payroll department. You will assist the Group Payroll Manager with the operational running of the Group’s the payroll operation. You will also be managing a team of 6 payroll administrators. The role is based on Bolton but we have multiple sites across the UK so some ad hoc travel may be required. The Assistant Payroll Manager position is responsible for taking charge of all Payroll queries and processing for our Group, including our Germany operations so experience of payroll operations outside the UK would be useful. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who has experience working within a busy Payroll department and looking to take their career to the next level whilst working under an experience Group Payroll Manager. Here's what you can expect to be doing as our Assistant Payroll Manager: Reporting into the Group Payroll Manager and leading a small team of staff engaged in data preparation and the processing of payments of salaries and expenses; prioritising the work of the team to ensure defined standards, timetables and set deadlines are met including: - Review of Payroll entries prepared by other team members - Pre & Post payroll checking - Ad-hoc reporting - End to end Payroll cover for times of business need i.e. holiday cover. - Payment Adjustments – over and under payments - Pre & post payroll audits to highlight errors - Calculations for all employees – including manual calculations - BACS payments and transactions Building relationships with the Group’s People teams as well as staff and internal stakeholders on a range of payroll issues. In addition, the Group Payroll Manager may request - Assistance in various type of project work - Various HMRC reporting / technical queries – including p11d reporting A few things about you: - Ideally a recognised payroll qualification (CIPP or equivalent) - Previous experience in a similar role is essential – ideally experience managing a large payroll function (500 ) - Experience of a payroll system (Northgate, ADP etc) - Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office and Analytical skills - Knowledge and awareness of pension schemes and Auto Enrolment when providing administration would be useful - Excellent communication skills – confident to build relationships outside the Payroll team - Ability to work either on your own as well as part of a team of Payroll professionals - A high level of accuracy and excellent attention to detail - Responsibility to recognize the sensitivity and confidentiality of company and personal information. - Flexible attitude and able to work with confidential information - Ability to work at a fast pace and under pressure.
