Overview

The Sustainability Coordinator is responsible for supporting the Head of Sustainability UK & Ireland in developing, implementing, monitoring and measuring a comprehensive sustainability program that incorporates sustainability into all aspects of the operations. Festival Republic is part of Live Nation Entertainment which is the world’s leading live entertainment company comprised of global market leaders: Ticketmaster, Live Nation Concerts, LN Media and Artist Nation Management. SPECIFIC ACTIVITIES Coordinate and monitor a comprehensive sustainability plan and management system. Implement specific policies & programmes in the following areas; Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emission Reduction Energy efficiency / Renewable energy Waste management (recycling, composting etc.) Water and sewage management Sustainable travel (audience and production) Review policies as required and provide assistance to assure passage and implementation by appropriate decision-makers. Ensure that sustainable procurement is at the heart of the operations. Provide advice and support on sustainability issues to other departments. Coordinate the implementation of an action plan with specific initiatives and targets for reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Work with all stakeholders including staff, artists, caterers, concessions managers, sponsors, partners and contractors to set goals for sustainability. Liaise with them to develop and communicate environmental activities/targets, monitor compliance, reporting to the Event Management team as required. Manage the collation of data on sustainability issues. Maintain tracking methods for sustainability goals. Measure success and cost-effectiveness of programs. Prepare reports on sustainability progress, including debrief and annual reports. Write and edit communications plan / copy to promote awareness of the green initiatives across the different audiences, staff, artists and service providers to deliver cultural and behavioural change. Implement educational activities, management of external partners (including charities). Budget management / negotiation and purchase of all items needed to support the environmental activities onsite. Liaise with the Production teams to plan all logistics for environmental initiatives onsite such as the cup deposit return stations, advancing all requirements such as signage, power, toilets, furniture, lighting, skips, etc. On site management of all logistics including waste collection and coordination with finance and other relevant departments to ensure smooth operation. Recruit, interview, hire and manage Sustainability Assistants performing work on sustainability projects with well-defined deliverables. Recruit, train and manage volunteers (between 100 and 250 per festival) to support to the Sustainability Initiatives onsite (including the salvaging operation). Carry out GHG emissions reports using the company standard emissions reporting platform. Represent the organisation in public events and the industry group’s discussions related to sustainability. PERSON SPECIFICATIONS The post requires the education and experience necessary to provide professional and technical advice, to identify and implement opportunities for improvement in sustainability performance, GHG emissions reduction and change management. EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE Thorough knowledge and experience of a broad range of environmental issues, industry standards, best practice, legislation, etc. Analysing data and preparing management reports. Project management. Budget management. Environmental audits. Event experience. Experience writing sustainability communications would be desirable. Previous experience recruiting, training and managing staff and volunteers would be desirable. EDUCATION / TRAINING A degree in an environmental related subject would be desirable. RELEVANT SKILLS / APTITUDES Excellent communication, motivation and influencing skills at all levels, oral and written. Excellent analytical and organisation skills. Ability to self-motivate, multi-task and to work in a fast-paced environment. Natural collaborator, working cross functionally and at all levels, internally and externally. Attention to detail in preparation and delivery of management information to a wide audience highly developed numeracy and IT skills. A positive and creative "can do" approach. Ability to think creatively. Co-ordination of project teams and stakeholder groups. Ability to work on own initiative and regularly report back on progress.
