Overview

We have an exciting opportunity for a Head of Destination Marketing to join a newly created team based in Harrogate. You will join uson a full time, permanent basis and in return, you will receive a competitive salary of £58,778 - £61,882 per annum. Harrogate Borough Council will be creating a new Destination Marketing Organisation for the district of Harrogate. The aim of this exciting new organisation is to devise and promote a new destination management and marketing plan, in order to increase economic impact to the region. Due to this exciting new development, we are seeking a Head of Destination Marketing to head up this new organisation, to ensure that the district of Harrogate is a “must visit” destination for leisure and business tourists alike. The Head of Destination Marketing role: Initially based at Harrogate Convention Centre, you will work with, and build on, the successful work already put in place by the team of Visit Harrogate and the HCC marketing function. Once in post, the new Head of Service will then be responsible for scoping out the strategy for the new destination management and marketing plan for district, and then devising the structure of the Destination Management Organisation to deliver this new vision. Early priorities will also be to develop a convention bureau to support the establishment of an end to end sales package by the HCC sales team, and also to develop a ‘town welcome’ package for major events. What we’re looking for in our Head of Destination Marketing: Reporting initially to the Director of Harrogate Convention Centre, you will be a tourism expert with specific expertise within the destination management or destination marketing field. You will have a proven track record of leading a destination management or marketing function and possess a marketing degree with a tourism bias. You will also be an excellent team player, with strong relationship building skills, who understands the importance of balancing the needs of the Council, town stakeholders and trade bodies. The role requires a high level of gravitas in order to win the hearts and minds of all interested parties, while remaining resolutely impartial. You should have a clean driving licence and use of a vehicle, for which an appropriate allowance is payable for mileage.
