Overview

Biffa are currently looking for a Senior Transfer Station Manager/Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) Manager to effectively oversee the national transfer station network, specifically during business acquisitions/projects and at general times of need. The successful candidates will ensure consistent Health and Safety and Environmental compliance and deliver first class customer service in line with pre-defined business KPI's, promote employee engagement to support continuous improvement in productivity and quality of service provision, through continuous review and improved site profitability, to support business growth and best in class performance. The position will cover all Biffa Transfer Station/MRF locations with specific coverage at a set location/region during the project/acquisition however during settled periods, the role will primarily support our Midlands Region. Principal Accountabilities: Oversee site adherence to key site processes relating to health and safety, security, employee relations and legislation. Ensure service delivery meets defined key performance indicators whilst driving best practice and continuous improvement in cost control and productivity. Define and support the development of the staff as a whole, identifying and sharing best practice. Manage and ensure compliance of Health and Safety, Environmental, Employment legislation and company policy to ensure defined standards and best practice are adhered to. Agrees, monitors and manages the full P&L budget, delegating accountability where appropriate, supporting financial year on year growth of the depot. Work within cross-divisional teams to provide integrated waste solutions using best practice and through continuous improvement. Develop strong and productive working relationships with internal and external partners. Ensure that the team is provided with clear performance standards and is staffed, coached, trained and motivated to meet set targets. Providing leadership and support to individuals and shifts and be highly visible within the Site Operations. Nature and Scope: The Senior Transfer Station Manager/MRF Manager is responsible for integrating the Acquisition/project at 'X' location while supporting and delivering the growth strategy for the facilities within their remit, with regards to the commodity sales, identifying and implementing new and best practices to provide a first-class customer service. The role requires medium (6-12 months) term planning in conjunction with regional management based upon the Division's annual Business Plan, as well as to monitor and control the full P&L budget of the facility. The Senior Transfer Station Manager/MRF Manager is required to supervise, coach and train the team to produce the highest levels of customer service. To promote open channels of communications with all departments within the Division and the wider Biffa Business and to proactively and consistently review all processes used by the Transfer Stations. The role has a degree of autonomy, with regards to sites specific strategy and to growth and development, however, operates within the constraints of legislation and company policy and procedure. Where a solution is developed, it must meet Biffa's health and safety priority with regards to its people and customer and environment. This role has scope and negotiation with regards to third party suppliers, and however is often in conjunction with the regional management. This role has full budget responsibility for the relevant facilities and the achievement thereof. Through actively managing and working in partnership with the Regional General Managers, the candidate will explore new business opportunities and present the prospects to the relevant regional management team. This role is hands-on role involving the use of many personal skills such as relationship management, negotiation and people management. There is a need for innovative thinking and is solution driven. The ability to build key internal relationships at all levels up to Senior Management within the business across a number of departments is essential, as well as the ability to build key relationships with external organisations. The job requires the ability to multi task situations that are live - requiring immediate attention and the ability to deliver a first-class Customer Service. Person Specification: GCSE or equivalent in Maths and English. WAMITAB CoTC Level 4. IOSH Certificate. Intermediate Microsoft package IT skills in Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint. Extensive experience as Operations Manager or position of similar responsibility in Services or Logistics industry. People and Health and Safety management in a Unionised environment. Proven track record or working to clearly defined service delivery KPI's. Proven track record of delivering continuous improvement within an operational/service environment. Profit and Loss experience. Lean Management understanding. Good transport/logistics knowledge. Experience of managing in a labor intensive, multi shift environment. Full/Current car driving licence. Willingness to travel and be located in a specific location as and when required/for lengthy periods of time to support the full integration of the project.
