The Role : Lead the scientific and strategic development of communications and written deliverables, focusing on accuracy, language and other quality markers. Act as medical and scientific lead for the department on assigned projects, providing in-depth scientific knowledge and understanding of the product, therapy area and information sources. Work across a number of multi-functional teams from the Medical Writing team, to the broader department and other IQVIA divisions. Responsibilities: * Perform quality control (QC) reviews across all content (copy and creative) produced by the delivery teams, especially writers, with excellent attention to detail. Ensure appropriate in terms of compliance, accuracy and interpretation, messaging, structure/flow and readability, appropriateness for the audience. * Contribute to writing for projects, especially drafting content for complex or unusual items. * Conduct and present insights relevant to content to project team members, by reviewing available insights and supplementing with further research where necessary. * Exercise excellent interpersonal/communication skills for effective and professional liaison with the internal team, clients, healthcare professionals and other key stakeholders and to obtain comprehensive briefs and responses to queries. * Actively participate in meetings with relevant internal and external stakeholders, representing the writing team where necessary, and respond effectively to questions relating to allocated areas of responsibility. * Collaborate with strategy and BD leads when scientific/therapeutic expertise is required, to create content and contribute to strategy for RFPs. * Lead meetings with relevant stakeholders, presenting scientific/clinical concepts and facilitating discussions as required. Provide scientific counsel as scientific/therapeutic subject matter experts (SMEs), where required. * Cultivate strong, long-term working relationships with internal and external key decision-makers. * Support less experienced writers to incorporate internal/client comments using a scientifically accurate and balanced approach and help to resolve any conflicts in a professional and compliant manner. Work directly with internal teams or clients to provide advice and rationale when requested changes will cause inaccuracy, inconsistency, or compliance issues, or reduce the effectiveness of the item. * Provide accurate budget estimates for the department. * Diligently follow all company standard operating procedures (SOPs), as well as adhere to industry regulations and departmental guidance. Skills and abilities: * Strong computer skills, including MS office, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Adobe Acrobat, Outlook and Internet. * Good research skills and ability to interpret scientific and clinical data. * Proven experience in writing in the medical/scientific communications field. * Extensive experience of writing a variety of healthcare/scientific communications materials for a range of audiences. Ability to generate grammatically correct, consistent, scientifically accurate copy, using appropriate writing styles for different audiences. * Demonstrable therapy area expertise. * Excellent attention to detail. * Ability to monitor team outputs, ensuring quality, compliance, appropriateness and profitability. * Proven ability to coach and train team members. * Ability to work both independently and in a team environment. * Ability to perform multiple tasks and prioritize work effectively and work to tight timelines. * Ability to be self-directed and manage time efficiently. * Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, managers, clients and suppliers. * Excellent knowledge of GCP, current industry code of practice guidelines and their implications. * Budgetary awareness. * Experienced, confident and clear oral communication and presentation skills. Education and experience: * Minimum of Bachelor's degree (required) in a scientific or medical subject (preferred) * Higher degree in a relevant discipline is preferred * Minimum of 5 years' medical writing experience, or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
