Overview

THE COMPANY: A large National Charity based in Chesterfield are looking to recruit a Head of Governance to be the strategic safeguarding lead for the organisation. THE JOB: You will act as a key interface between the Executive Team and Trustees to ensure that Trustee governance of the charity is efficiently and effectively managed in accordance with external regulatory compliance obligations and internal constitutional and administrative procedures of the charity. You will be the strategic safeguarding lead for the charity with responsibility for oversight and development of organisational policies and procedures in line with legislation, guidance and best practice and for reporting to the Executive Team. Responsibilities will include: Ensuring compliance with the latest requirements and guidelines of the Charity Commission, OSCR and Companies House working in partnership with the governance manager to ensure that all relevant Companies Act and Regulator compliance matters are appropriately managed, and that related key contacts are appropriately managed. Regularly review and maintain clear and consistent terms of reference across all Committees and that the dependencies/interdependencies between Committees are framed and appropriately managed by the Committee Chairs and their TLT leads. Lead on the triennial external review of the Board, its values and behaviours, its practices and operations to ensure adherence to (ideally exceeding) contemporary best practice, whilst challenging and evolving this best practice through your work and theirs. Maintain and deliver to a continuous improvement governance development action plan. Fulfil the role of strategic safeguarding lead, and support the operational safeguarding lead to implement and manage the policies and procedures for ensuring that children and adults at risk/vulnerable adults that come into contact with Versus Arthritis are appropriately safeguarded THE PERSON: This is a fantastic role within a great organisation and will be pivotal to the organisation. You will report directly to the Finance Director. You will need e xperience of successfully leading at a senior level in Governance or as Company Secretary, in a large organisation with responsibility for all related activity. Knowledge of charity legislative, regulatory and the governance landscape, both current and future requirements will be essential and the ability to work in partnership and with people at all levels, demonstrating strong skills in networking and influencing with the ability to challenge and drive momentum at senior leadership level.
