The South Ormsby Estate are looking for a Relief Milker to work every other weekends and cover for holidays Job Title: Relief Milker Location: South Ormsby, Lincolnshire Salary: £10 per hour Hours of work: 6 hours every other weekend and holiday cover Relief Milker – The Company: The village of South Ormsby is an estate of c3000 acres nestled within the Lincolnshire Wolds and is an area of outstanding natural beauty, rich in wildlife. The new custodians of the South Ormsby Estate are restoring the heritage of the estate and rejuvenating the local economy. Building upon a historic past and using the latest technology their vision is to create the best place to invest, work, live, play and retire to. In short the aim is to create the best farming estate in the world. Amongst other ventures, South Ormsby Estate homes Native Pedigree Lincoln Red cattle. This particular breed are on the endangered list with only 450 breeding Native Pedigree Lincoln Red cattle in the UK, 120 of these at South Ormsby. Relief Milker – The Role: To provide cover for milking when the Dairy Herd Team leader is not working i.e. every other weekend, holidays and sickness. To milk the cows in the morning and return them to the field, some electric fence moving may be required. - To herd cattle into the parlour ready for milking - Milking to take place once a day - Feed and diagnose potential disease and injury of the livestock, ensuring that cattle remain healthy - Return cattle to field after milking - Rotation of grazing system with electric fencing when needed - Reporting to the Dairy Herd Manager when required Relief Milker – Skills & Experience required: - Knowledge, experience of rotational grazing systems using electric fences an advantage but training will be given - Experience of working on a milk unit an advantage - In-depth understanding of cattle with a focus on cow health, welfare and production - Health and hygiene regulations in production of milk an advantage but training given - Shows attention to detail in all aspects of their work and a commitment to excellence in all areas - Genuine love of animals - Must be clean and well-presented at all times This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who has a background in farming with livestock experience and genuine love of animals.
