Overview
Milton Keynes College have an exciting opportunity for an Additional Learning Support Practitioner to join our Prison Education team at HMP Bullingdon. As a successful Learning Support Practitioner, you will be able to inspire and assist learners throughout their academic and vocational studies. As an Additional Learning Support Practitioner, you will be based in the classroom as well as provide outreach support for learners with additional learning needs around the prison, this will include the wings, healthcare and workshops. The requirement of this role is to work across the whole prison estate, on all wings where education is delivered. You will be a passionate, creative and empathetic towards our learners and be able to offer knowledge and guidance to our learners. HMP Bullingdon is a complex prison that has a number of functions. It is categorized as a local category B prison which a category C resettlement function. HMP Bullingdon has the capacity to hold 1114 offenders all serving a range of sentences from remand to life, with the average length of stay between 3 and 6 months. The College works closely with our prison colleagues to deliver short to medium courses that help prepare learners for employment upon release. Courses include: English and Maths Functional Skills (Entry 2 to Level 2), ICT, Cookery, Hospitality, Business, Self-Employment, Painting & Decorating, Horticulture, Paving, Mentoring and Barbering. In the department we believe the opportunity to gain skills and knowledge will help our learners to end their offending behaviour. As a successful candidate you will: • Have a good basic general education including GCSE (or equivalent) Maths and English at Grade C. • Hold an NVQ2/NVQ3 Teaching Assistant qualification or be willing to work towards. • Have experience of working in a learning environment. • Have well-developed interpersonal skills in relating to prison staff and in working with students who may have little experience of education and training. • Be computer literate and willing to improve your IT skills. • Ability to work as part of a team and on their own initiative. • Have good organisational skills and be able to meet deadlines.
