Maths Teacher

BSix Brooke House Sixth Form College ,
London, Greater London
Job Type: Full-time

Overview

BSix Sixth Form College is seeking to appoint a teacher of mathematics to join a team of five other colleagues. Some seventy per cent of college students study at Level 3 (A-Levels or vocational programmes) but courses are also run at level 2, level 1 and Entry level. Mathematics features across all areas of the curriculum and the new appointment will have the opportunity to teach students of differing abilities and backgrounds. Almost a third of BSix students are taking GCSE maths or working towards it. As such, GCSE is the staple component of each teacher`s timetable but there is scope, too, for the successful candidate to have some A level teaching and to link with vocational departments in seeking to further our strategic aim of developing enhanced numeracy competence in all of our students. All members of the maths team are skilled and experienced practitioners. The prevailing ethos is one of encouragement and support. Sharing of resources and advice is the norm and there is a will to improve the already sound results achieved in the subject. Anyone looking for a first teaching position in an environment where collective policies and approaches sit easily alongside a healthy degree of individual autonomy should find BSix an extremely conducive home. The college as a whole is recovering from a period of some decline and striving to make itself a more attractive proposition for prospective students. Results in 2019 were the best ever recorded and applications for September 2020 are significantly up on those of the past three years. Financial pressures remain serious, but morale is very good and there is a strong collective will to establish BSix as a destination of choice for local school leavers.
