Therefore, we are looking for a Senior Landscape & Tree Officer to act as the principal point of contact for arboricultural and landscape related issues within the Planning Service. As Senior Landscape and Tree Officer you will lead in the active and continuous promotion of best practice to embed tree preservation, biodiversity and landscape at the heart of the planning process. You will participate in guidance and policy making and negotiate positive design changes as part of the development management process to seek tree preservation and high quality landscape design. In particular, your main duties will include, Processing applications for works to trees covered by Tree Preservation Orders and Section 211 notifications concerning trees in Conservation Areas; providing advice to members of the public and other stakeholders in relation to arboricultural issues within the planning context; leading on technical responses to planning application submission relating to trees and landscape, negotiating with developers and arboricultural professionals; making new and emergency Tree Preservation Orders as and when required as well as supervising more junior members of staff as required. The successful candidate must have thorough working knowledge of the relevant legislation and regulations relating to trees in the planning context, excellent organisational skills and exceptional written and oral communication skills. You will have a relevant post-graduate qualification in architecture or landscape architecture, experience of working in a similar role in a planning context and eligibility for membership of the Arboricultural Association. The post sits within the multidisciplinary Conservation, Urban Design and Sustainability team and has close liaisons with other arboricultural services within the Council with exciting opportunities for professional development.
