Overview
Private Sector Housing Officer based in East London Your new company This East London based public sector organisation is currently looking to recruit Private Sector Housing Officer to join their Private Housing and Environmental Health team. The team are responsible for providing specialised services and technical advice relating to the work of Environmental Protection within Housing, where appropriate assuming and exercising delegated statutory authority whilst assisting in policy development and ensuring all tenancies are correctly managed. Your new role As a Private Sector Housing Officer you will be responsible for enforcing and using your housing and Environmental health knowledge to manage the appropriate legislative provisions, ensuring statutory responsibilities are properly and effectively discharged in relation to housing, including Houses in Multiple Occupation. You will contribute to providing professional and technical advice whilst undertaking Environmental Health Housing enforcement and inspection duties. To undertake inspections, surveys and investigations under relevant Environmental Health Legislation, including visiting sites and taking necessary action Prepare reports and make recommendations for legal proceedings and provide briefings for legal representatives. Participate in the development of intervention strategies for public health policies and procedures within the private sector housing discipline. Initiate and support Officers as well as overseeing cases in relation to the housing licensing schemes, proactively identifying relevant properties that require a licence and carrying out works in default What you'll need to succeed To be the successful candidate, you will need to have excellent knowledge of private sector housing and property licensing within the local government framework. Including, the enforcement and regulatory functions within the Housing Act and Public Health. In addition to this a degree in Environmental Health or a similar or equivalent degree. Full registration within the Environmental Health Officer Registration Board (EHORB) and a Certificate in Understanding and Applying the HHSRS (2-day course) or equivalent. In addition to this, experience on leading in housing enforcement cases and experience in inspecting properties in poor and overcrowded and unsanitary conditions will enhance your application.
