Job Description

We are looking for a Senior Quality Assurance (QA) Engineer to join SamKnows as our first dedicated QA team member. Your responsibilities will include defining a company-wide QA strategy including team testing guidelines, standards and documentation. This will involve working as part of our cross-functional feature team to integrate testing as a fundamental part of the development and release process. You should have familiarity with QA techniques and tools for frontend web applications, backend applications and mobile applications. An intimate knowledge of each is not required; a broad knowledge of all is most beneficial. You will create comprehensive test plans and help execute them. Where possible, you should seek to automate as much of the testing as possible into our continuous integration/delivery pipeline. Knowledge of automated testing frameworks is a significant benefit. We wish to define and track suitable QA metrics (e.g. defect densities and open defect counts) to help us understand where we are doing well and where we can improve. Given that this is our first dedicated QA Engineer hire, you will have a lot of latitude in this role to implement the best practices youve learnt in your career so far, and to experiment with new ones that youd not had a chance to try yet. Responsibilities * Define SamKnows QA strategy by working closely with senior engineers and applying best practices * Review requirements, specifications and technical design documents before development commences * Create detailed, comprehensive and well-structured test plans and test cases * Estimate, prioritise, plan and coordinate testing activities * Design, develop and execute automation scripts using commonly available open source tools * Identify, record, document thoroughly and track bugs * Liaise with internal teams (e.g. developers and product managers) to identify testing requirements and existing deficiencies * Investigate the causes of non-conforming software and help developers to improve on existing testing solutions * Track and report on quality assurance metrics, like defect densities and open defect counts * Stay up-to-date with new testing tools and test strategies Requirements * Minimum three years work experience in software quality assurance, working with in front end, backend and mobile applications. * Strong knowledge of software QA methodologies, tools and processes * Experience in writing clear, concise and comprehensive test plans * Hands-on experience with both white box and black box testing * Hands-on experience with automated testing tools * Experience working in an Agile/Scrum development process * Experience with performance and/or security testing is a plus Benefits * A stimulating working environment in central London * Opportunity for growth * Private health care * Pension scheme * Cycle to work scheme * 25 days holiday leave per year plus bank holidays * Training and book budget * New office and choice of hardware * Season ticket loan * A competitive salary
