We are looking for a Food Coatings Qualification Leader to join our Technical Development Coatings Team. You will work within Technical development and will be responsible for the qualifications of Coatings in EMEA. You will be reporting to the EMEA Coating Manager. This role focuses on two core areas. You will be responsible for coating development, screening and qualifications programmes for Food Cans and Metal Closures. In addition to this, you will lead a small team of material scientists to divide the food qualification portfolio into manageable projects to deliver objectives within business expectations. You will design and execute trials and testing plans to develop and qualify internal and external coating materials for Crown's Food European and Asia Pacific businesses. Furthermore, you will develop new testing methods to predict industrial coatings performance in finished product. You will work with a range of stakeholders internal and external to Crown to coordinate technical briefs for new developments and organise technical reviews with the business and suppliers. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading a small team within the Coating group, managing the team's performance and progress in line with Crown Technology's vision and strategic objectives. In order to succeed you will be educated to degree level in Materials Science, Materials Engineering or Polymer Chemistry with several years' experience in a related industry with supervision of technical staff. Knowledge on Polyester and Acrylic coatings formulations and application methods would be an advantage for this role. You will have knowledge of functional coatings, protective materials, and application processes such as coating and printing, and Food contact requirements. Experience in new technology development or continuous improvement techniques (lean, Six Sigma) this would be advantageous. You will be an excellent communicator with the ability to effectively interact with a broad range of partners to meet a series of challenging goals. You will be a proactive, results focussed and highly organised individual who is able to demonstrate know-how and skills in managing material related projects. Frequent travel will be required throughout the UK, Europe at short notice to support the project demands.
