Overview

Job Description

Applications are invited for a consultant post in general internal medicine working within the gastroenterology team at the North Middlesex University Hospital NHS Trust. The post is for 10 programmed activities however part time applications or job shares will also be considered. The successful applicant will join our close-knit team of seven substantive consultants delivering inpatient care to our dedicated ward supervising our excellent team of junior doctors. There will also be a commitment to outpatients with three clinics per week as part of our Multidisciplinary Diagnostic Centre with a lead role in the development of our new Rapid Diagnostic Centre for which we are an early innovator. There will be the opportunity to deliver outpatient services in an alternative specialty of your choice. The postholder will contribute to the general medical post-take ward rounds (1 in 9) and weekend cover (1 in 12) arrangements. We are looking for an enthusiastic colleague to support the delivery and further development of our service. The acute medical model has brought about vast improvements in early diagnosis and management of medical patients but a gap has developed in the ongoing care of these patients once they move from the AMU to specialty wards. The majority of patients on our gastroenterology ward have non-specialty GI problems and would be better served by a more broad-minded physician. It is for this reason that we are looking for a general physican perhaps with an acute medical or other specialty background to help us manage our patients more effectively. There is a ward based team of junior doctors with three SPR trainees and 4 other juniors. The North Middlesex is a University Hospital dedicated to postgraduate teaching and training as well as undergraduate teaching of both local and international medical students. Candidates must be registered with the GMC and hold a CCT in GIM or appropriate specialty. SpRs within six months of accreditation on the date of the interview are also welcome to apply.
