Community Teaching Assistant 37 weeks a year
Overview
Job Description
Have you thought about a career in education? Could you inspire and share your knowledge with young people who have learning disabilities? We love what we do and are recognised as an award winning charity for our passion and dedication. Join us as a Community Support Worker and you'll soon see why. These posts are 38 hours a week, 37 weeks a year. You'll deliver a community-based education programme to young people whose learning difficulties or autism mean it's challenging for them to access mainstream education. You will plan, evaluate and record educational sessions, making learning fun. You'll support young people to learn practical life skills, functional skills, or develop specialist talents. Some young people attend work experience or college. Young people are almost always supported 1-1, so your day will involve lone working, often in the community. Some young people require support with intimate care or medication and they may, if feeling particularly anxious, show behaviours of concern. We'll provide you with a full induction, training and support in all these areas, together with day-to-day backup from your line manager. Every day is different but one thing is the same: the achievement you'll feel as you watch young people blossom into adulthood. Come and add to our success stories! What we need from you Perhaps you've been a Learning Support Assistant. Maybe you've been a Support Worker in social care. But experience is not essential. For us, underlying ability and attitude are just as important as background and experience. We can provide all the specialist training you need, but we can't train you to be kind, to have initiative, to be friendly and patient, and those are essential qualities for this work. You will need good functional skills, including English, Maths and ICT, as you will be required to summarise and record the young person's learning in our database. You must hold a licence which allows you to drive in the UK, together with your own transport that is insured for business use. You must be willing and able to travel across the area, supporting young people from their own homes when required. Reasonable mileage is reimbursed.
