Role Profile The Linux Engineering team is looking for a senior Perl specialist with knowledge of infrastructure and configuration management systems to develop and maintain operational tooling used to build, operate and manage our large scale (70,000 node) Linux plant. The tools consist of a mixture of open source and in-house written products, each of which are critical to the daily workflows of system administrators and developers across the bank. The Linux Engineering team is responsible for designing and implementing Linux infrastructure for Morgan Stanley's distributed systems. The group is involved in evaluation, certification, integration, and maintenance of numerous products, including Operating Systems (Red Hat Enterprise Linux), system configuration, system services (e.g. NTP), and a variety of in-house developed tooling to support the infrastructure. Role Profile * Expert knowledge of the Perl programming language * You will have experience of managing, deploying to and debugging large scale production environments * You will be familiar with methodologies for deploying scalable and resilient solutions across a global infrastructure * You will be enthusiastic to apply modern software development practices such as test driven development, agile, git (or other SCM), code review and continuous integration. * You will be joining a global team of highly accomplished developers and infrastructure specialists Skills Required * Significant experience in Perl development in a complex environment * Knowledge of writing object-oriented code * Ability to write secure, robust, testable, and maintainable code * Linux and networking fundamentals. * Effective troubleshooting skills * Experience running and/or building highly available systems. Skills Desired * Experience with other languages such as Python, C, or shell * Good knowledge of at least one configuration management system such as puppet or chef * Exposure to modern development tools and practices including Git, Jenkins, agile and continuous integration * Contributor to open source projects would be an ideal fit. * Familiarity with database technologies Interested in flexible working opportunities?
