CG 1932 - 024283 - Locum Consultant in Medical Microbiology or Locum Consultant in Microbiology with Infectious Diseases, Western General Hospital, Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh and St John's Hospital in lIvingston. To this end, NHS Lothian welcomes applications from all sections of society. ***PLEASE NOTE: We cannot accept late applications so please ensure your application is submitted early*** Applicants are welcome for the above Locum Consultant Medical Microbiologist (with/without Infectious Diseases) post within NHS Lothian Laboratory Medicine - Microbiology/Virology service; to join a team of 12 Consultant Microbiologists and 5 Consultant Virologists who provide a service covering the whole of NHS Lothian Health Board. The Locum post is based at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh and the Western General Hospital with cover as required at St John's Hospital at Howden and the Royal Hospital for Children and Young People. We have excellent working relationships with clinical teams and ongoing collaboration with researchers in Edinburgh and beyond. The NHS Lothian Microbiology/Virology service includes five Scottish Reference Laboratories dealing with Mycobacteria, E. coli O157/STEC, bacterial STIs , Human Papilloma Virus and Viral Haemorrhagic Fever as well as a whole range of specialist Virology services. The laboratories have full UKAS ISO 15189:2012 accreditation. We have formed the NHS Lothian Infection Service (NIS) with colleagues in Virology, Infectious Diseases and Infection Prevention & Control aligning these more closely, in line with national changes in training and service provision. Our goal is to make optimal use of available expertise for delivery of high-quality patient-centred care for patients with, or at risk of, infection in our health board. The post holder will have a CCT in Medical Microbiology (with/without Infectious Diseases), or be within 6 months at interview date of achieving CCT, and be expected to have broad-based experience of Medical Microbiology, Infection Prevention & Control and teaching/training of medical/non-medical students/trainees. Other areas of special interest may be accommodated by negotiation. On-call is 1:8-9 pro-rata with prospective cover (5% availability supplement). The new post is full-time, but part-time/ job-share applicants will be considered. The indicative Job Plan includes 8 Programmed Activities for Direct Clinical Care including 1 session for Infection Prevention & Control, Occupational Health and Public Health liaison together with up to 2 Supporting Professional Activities (to include teaching/training of medical/non-medical students/trainees).
