Please note this is an INTERNAL VACANCY ONLY for NUH employees, therefore only current employees of Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust will be considered for the post. An opportunity has arisen for a Fixed Term Full Time Band 7 Advanced Biomedical Scientist. This secondment opportunity is open to current Nottingham University Hospital staff for a fixed term period of three months with the possibility of extension if necessary. The successful candidate will be part of a senior team who share the vision to provide the best possible service to patients across the region. The successful candidate will act as the scientific lead and will play a pivotal role in the development of the flow cytometry service. This is a great opportunity for somebody who wants to gain experience as an Advanced Biomedical Scientist. The HMDN department, which is based at the Nottingham City Campus, currently processes samples for morphology and immunophenotyping. It has close links with histology, cytogenetics and molecular diagnostic laboratories within the region and nationally in order to produce a peer review compliant integrated report. Applicants must be registered to practice with the HCPC. It is essential that applicants have completed an IBMS Specialist Portfolio or equivalent and be able to demonstrate extensive commitment to continuing education and training. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate up to date highly specialised or expert knowledge in flow cytometry and have evidence of extensive post-registration experience in a diagnostic laboratory. The department requires an experienced, competent and versatile Advanced Biomedical Scientist with experience of leadership and service improvement. This role will have supervisory and line management responsibility, and previous experience of this would be desirable. You will also be expected to support the Quality Management System and be responsible for the production, review and implementation of SOPs, perform audits and risk assessments and be responsible for asset management. The successful applicant will be enthusiastic, a good team leader with excellent organisational and interpersonal skills. The ability to prioritise tasks together with effective communication, attention to detail, accuracy and proven IT skills are essential. Experience of training and supervising staff, and knowledge of the principles of Lean management and EQA participation would be advantageous. The successful candidate should be able to conform to Trust manager's standards and be willing to commit to the Trust Values and Behaviours. Continuing education is encouraged and we actively support CPD. The department is approved for training by the IBMS/HCPC and is UKAS accredited. Working hours are between 8.00 a.m. and 6.00 p.m. and some weekend working may be required. You will be required to work at the HMDN department at the City Hospital NUH campus.
