Grade: Band D Lower Salary: 29,064 to 35,481 Closing Date: 24th June 2020 About the role: 12 month fixed term contract covering maternity leave To provide a comprehensive video recovery and enhancement service to officers of the West Midlands Police. To communicate verbal and written summaries of findings for investigating officers to review and make informed decisions as to how to progress inquiries. Provide evidential reports for the purpose of presenting evidence to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) and Court. Key Responsibilities: * To provide a complete video editing service, including the production of edited sequences, still images, video enhancement and copy facilities to a high standard, to assist investigating officers within the WMP and other specific external agencies including the CPS. * To undertake the recovery of Digital and CCTV imagery from Scenes * Liaise with Forensic Scene Investigators and SIO's at crime scenes giving guidance to enable recovery of CCTV Imagery. * To assist in the production of Forensic Audio Enhancement under the guidance of the Forensic Audio Specialists. * Liaise with officers from Crime Support departments and other LPU's giving advice on best practice. * Give guidance and training to WMP staff on the use of video viewing/enhancement systems. * Undertake research and development of new and existing systems for use within the VIU and other WMP departments. * Evaluate tapes and media prior to the employment of external agencies. * Attend and give evidence in court, including the installation and operation of video viewing equipment within the courtroom. * Maintain appropriate records and filing system to ensure integrity and continuity of evidence. * Use and manage the software based facial recognition system. * Using software publishing packages produce storyboards and re-constructions to aid investigations and for presentation in court. * Maintain department equipment carrying out minor servicing and repairs and evaluate broken equipment held in other departments. * Keep abreast of current legislation and working practices and working with the Force Imagery Analyst develop best practice and user guidelines for the force. Knowledge & Experience Essential * A good working knowledge of video enhancement systems and techniques. * ONC or equivalent in an appropriate subject or 3 years of experience working on video editing systems, Digital and Analogue. * Understanding of CCTV/Network systems * Proven experience in the use of computer software and hardware * Be knowledgeable of the ISO 17025 standard and ACPO Principles of Digital Evidence. * Must have full UK Driving Licence. Desirable * Proven knowledge of the electronics used in video editing. * Experience in the recovery and handling of video evidence. Additional Information: * The post holder will be required to work a shift pattern that incorporates working weekends, bank holidays and from time to time outside of core shift hours. * The post holder will be required to drive force vehicles and will need a full UK driving licence. * Required to attend training courses as and when required within the development on the post holder and the Unit. * Expected to comply with Health and Safety at Work Act, Fire Prevention Regulations and COSHH Regulations at all times. * Appointment to this post is subject to specific medical clearance. Appointments and progression between salary grades will be subject to qualifications, experience and performance.
