Job Description

Job summary Working across the full scope of Euston Station you will oversee the MEP design scope. You will ensure a fit-for-purpose, high quality, safe and compliant design at the lowest achievable cost. You will prioritise your efforts on a risk based approach and work with MEP delivery colleagues to ensure a robust review of deliverables and provide overall assurance that Client requirements are achieved. You are the Accountable Person empowered to fulfil the self-certification of the Works as per the Main Contract. Key responsibilities 1. Guide the development of the design to achieve a safe, buildable, operational and maintainable asset. 2. Ensure a suitable regime of intervention and verification to deliver the necessary technical assurance, particularly where scope is progressively fixed and assured. 3. Consult with MEP engineers within the joint venture, parent companies, client and MDJV supply chain (including Early Contractor Involvement) to ensure support for MDJV proposals, and validate best practise. 4. Develop an approach to design driven by value and collaborative working with the Design team, Construction team and the supply chain. Ensure culture and behaviours meet HS2 Construction Partner Objectives in collaboration with all parties, as described in WI830 (Collaboration). 5. Maintain an uncompromising commitment to safety. 6. Support the review of major Assurance deliverables. 7. Review and approve key technical documents, particularly design reports and specifications. 8. Support the Design Managers in review and approval of all other MEP submissions to the client and/or third parties. 9. Ensure appropriate levels of independent checking, especially Category 2. 10. Review key technical interfaces with adjacent HS2 contracts or existing third party assets. 11. Ensure that technical issues are identified, escalated and resolved as efficiently as possible. 12. Verify discipline competence and undertake surveillance of project design processes. 13. Ensure compliance with Project Requirements and Works Information constraints. 14. Protection of Design Vision and Employer's Objectives. 15. Ensure exemplary quality and sustainability standards. 16. Provide technical support to quality and design processes including change control and requests for information. Technical competencies 1. Have excellent communication skills (including presentation skills) in English, both written and verbal and the ability to report at both Project and Board level. 2. Ability to manage teams of people in a multi-disciplinary environment. Excellent organisational skills and the ability to plan ahead and manage own time. 3. A good working knowledge of the: a) Health & Safety at Work Act 1974, b) Construction Health, Safety and Welfare Regulations 1996 c) Construction Design and Management Regulations 2015 d) Management of health & Safety at Work Regulations 1999 and e) other relevant legislation Qualifications, Certifications & Experience 1. Extensive experience on delivery for major, complex MEP delivery in the transportation sector, or similar. 2. Educated to degree or higher level or equivalent in a numerate discipline, typically Engineering discipline (or related). A lower educational level, typically HNC or HND, may be acceptable where experience in a technical engineering role can be demonstrated. 3. Membership of an appropriate Professional body, typically Chartered membership of the Institute of Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or equivalent UK/international equivalent professional status.
