Job Description
SHO in Paediatrics : Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust Location: Royal Hampshire County Hospital, Winchester Role Description: We are looking for 2 fulltime SHO Trust Grade Doctors in General Paediatrics to commence from August 2020 for a period of 6 months based in the acute setting of the Royal Hampshire County Hospital, working with other colleagues to provide a comprehensive service including neonatal services (level 2) with a full shift rota pattern including out of hours cover for general paediatrics and the neonatal service. Who we are: RHCH has 13 acute General Paediatric Consultants with a variety of subspecialty interests between them plus 4 Consultants and 1 Associate Specialist in Community Paediatrics. We are supported by "Registrars" from the Wessex School of Paediatrics (ST3-ST8) plus "SHOs" from the Foundation and GP Schools, plus Advanced Nurse Practitioners. Both the Paediatric and Neonatal areas are staffed by Children's Nurses as well as other members of the multi-disciplinary clinical and administrative teams. Inpatient wards: Northbrook ward in Winchester has 18 inpatient beds for children and young people aged 0-18 years. These provide inpatient care for a range of specialties including medical, surgical, ENT and CAMHS admissions. Paediatric Assessment Unit ("Sophie's Place"): The assessment unit is adjacent to the main paediatric ward. Local GPs have immediate access to an expert Paediatric opinion on any child requiring urgent assessment. Children referred for a paediatric opinion from the Emergency Department are also seen in Sophie's. Outpatients: There is a dedicated paediatric outpatient area adjacent to the paediatric ward with over 8000 attendances each year. There are daily general paediatric clinics and special interest clinics plus visiting specialist clinics in cardiology, neurology, nephrology, endocrinology, gastroenterology, respiratory and surgery. Neonatal Care: Level 2 neonatal intensive care is provided as part of the South Central Neonatal Network. The Department has close links for tertiary services with the University Hospital Southampton and joint clinics with colleagues are held in the following specialties, surgery, cardiology, neurology, endocrinology, nephrology, gastroenterology and rheumatology.
