Come join us! About the Department Cloudflare's Engineering Team builds and runs the software that serves 14 million HTTP requests per second on average. We also build and run the internal tools that builds and runs our software. Product development covers both new features and functionality and scaling our existing software to meet the challenges of a massively growing customer base. The operations team handles one of the world's largest networks with data centers in more than 200 cities worldwide. What you'll do As Engineering Manager for the Front Line Platform (FLPLAT) you will lead the London-based team of engineers that develops the software platform responsible for routing, validating, and securely processing all 14 million/sec HTTP requests that hit the Cloudflare edge. This platform is a mix of open source systems such as NGINX with Lua, and increasingly our own code written in Rust, C++, Go, and Python. This unique role presents an opportunity to be at the nexus of the Cloudflare edge applications and operations, and to closely collaborate with other product and engineering teams in enabling their delivery. You will lead a team of passionate, talented engineers who are building innovative products that touch billions of web requests each day. In this role, you will introduce tools and processes to make our engineer's lives better. You will play an active part in shaping product strategy based on what's technically possible. You will make sure our company hits our ambitious goals from an engineering standpoint. You bring a passion for meeting business needs with building technically innovative solutions, and excel at shifting between the two-understanding how big-picture goals inform technical details, and vice-versa. You thrive in a fast-paced iterative engineering environment and have experience delivering scalable distributed systems. Most importantly, you will have a track record of having past teams respect you as both a technical leader and manager. Examples of desirable skills, knowledge and experience * 5+ years experience in engineering management * Solid foundation in computer science, with strong competencies in algorithms, data structures, software design, and building large, distributed systems * Proven experience in running enterprise services at pace and at scale whilst maintaining operational stability * Strong experience working with web performance, reverse proxy, caching and load balancing * Experience in representing Engineering teams strategically when cross-team design and planning is required * Experience of working with Product teams to balance priorities across operational requirements and new product development * Excel at planning, creating teams and overseeing execution to meet commitments and deliver with predictability * Demonstrate a track record of managing a team including hiring, on-boarding, and professional development.
