Job Description
This is an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Practitioner to progress their career within the Trauma and Orthopaedic unit. The 20 bed ward provides a comprehensive specialist service in all aspects of emergency and elective surgery in adults. We need strong characters who can meet the demands and challenges of this service. You'll need to have excellent communication and interpersonal skills. The successful candidate will be expected to work within a multi-professional team, liaising with and providing high quality care for patients. You will function at a higher competency level than that of other Senior Health Care Assistants with responsibility for actively participating as part of the multidisciplinary team within the ward / department, to provide a seamless service to patients with proximal supervision from a Registered Nurse / or designated Allied Healthcare professional (AHP). The Assistant Practitioner will provide general / specific care to Adults, as specified below, and will be proficient and competent to work across professional disciplines, referring patients for Allied Health Professional assessment and treatment or to other agencies as required. It is anticipated that this role will continue to develop through the acquisition of further skills, knowledge and competencies to be determined within the clinical teams, with focus on client need. This post requires a dynamic, motivated and committed nurse who is seeking professional development within the field of Trauma and Orthopaedics. This is an excellent opportunity to develop skills in a specialist environment. Your daily role will be varied and will involve:- 1. Performing patient assessment, plan and deliver high standards of care. Develop, implement and evaluate individual care / treatment plans (in accordance with proven competency and after appropriate delegation from a registered practitioner). Supervision to continue whilst developing competencies. 2. Assist patients in maintaining their personal hygiene, including oral hygiene, grooming and dressing needs with respect for culture and religious needs, ensuring privacy and dignity at all times. Enable and assist the patient as directed or outlined within the patient's goal planning progress plan appropriate to their ability and condition. 3. Undertake and perform clinical skills to enhance the delivery of patient care e.g. venepuncture, cannulation, removal of clips and sutures, catheterisation and 12 lead ECG recording following successful competency assessment.
