Job Description

Purpose To work as part of the Expatriate Tax Team in ensuring that both the Firm and its internationally mobile workforce are tax compliant. This is one of two advisor roles within the Expat Tax Team; both advisors having distinct and separate responsibilities reporting directly to the Senior Expatriate & Employment Tax manager. Key Dimensions There will be significant global influence over all aspects of the Firm's tax compliance. This role will have influence over the duration and cost of international assignments and responsibility for overseas income tax and payroll compliance. Influencing across departments to Finance and HR Managers in the UK and worldwide. Dealing with established jurisdictions as well as new territories for the firm. Key responsibilities and challenges International assignments, agile working arrangements, commuter assignments and local hire moves Conducts UK arrival and departure tax briefings with assignee, reviews compliance completed by Expatriate & Employment Tax Assistant. Ad-hoc advice to assignee (being first point of contact for assignee population) and liaison with external advisors as necessary. PAYE Settlement Agreement Responsible for the analysis of major categories of the PSA contract, identifying areas of risk and working with business colleagues to produce accurate reports for senior manager sign-off. International Payroll (Belgium, Amsterdam, Spain) Compiles compensation each month, lead contact for external payroll providers and tax advisors, reviews and approves output. Deals with all queries. Expatriate tax and social security compliance Manages the Expatriate & Employment Tax Assistant to ensure that all assignee compliance work is dealt with. Liaises with external advisors to keep up to date on new procedures and processes and updates internal policies as necessary. Advises impact of changes to all stakeholders and keeps manager updated as required. Tax return compliance Liaises with overseas offices to obtain accurate and appropriate compensation information including foreign tax information in approved format. Manages cash flow to ensure tax optimisation (elimination of double tax, payroll withholding exemption as applicable). Tax payments are accelerated where necessary. Refunds are received back from tax authorities and all payments made on time. Accurate and timely TEC's received from external advisors. International trainee seat moves Primary contact for Graduate Recruitment and the trainee population. Reviews and amends all documentation to incorporate policy changes, DTA updates. Presents to each seat move to advise on tax issues. Tracks physical presence to identify any issues in advance and manages all compliance. Short Term Business Visitors Agreement (STBVA) Monitors short term assignment and frequent traveller information for STBVA. Advises individuals on risk and potential planning opportunities, liaises with HMRC, external advisors and overseas office to obtain residence certificates. Completes annual report for Manager review. Domestic employment tax issues Provides advice and expert opinion on topical issues and trends. For example, contribution to IR35 project.
