Job Description
We are looking for Band 5 Registered Nurses to join the team on the Surgical Emergency Unit (SEU). SEU Triage. 24H Emergency assessment unit SEU Wards The SEU is a fast paced and dynamic department at the John Radcliffe Hospital, caring for patients with a wide range of emergency general surgical conditions, covering upper and lower gastrointestinal, and hepatobiliary specialties. The unit has 50 in-patient beds across 3 ward areas and a nurse-led triage that receives patients referred directly by GP, the Emergency Department or out-patient clinics . The ambulatory area sits as part of triage but sees patients who return daily to receive consultant led care. SEU Triage The successful applicant will work within the Multi-Disciplinary Team in Surgical Emergency Assessment area. We have 12 assessment trolleys, a procedure room, a new USS room, and new Point of Care Testing devices. You will be able to develop your Emergency skills when assessing surgical deteriorating patients. Cannulations and venepuncture, NGTs, AIRVO, Stoma care, resuscitation skills, surgical wounds, NGTs, catheters, pre theatre assessments... We will offer support and training to you, whether newly qualified or have previous nursing experience. We are looking for candidates to work in a fast paced environment with a supportive and engaging team. SEU Wards The successful applicant will demonstrate a passion for general surgical nursing, and have had experience in the acute setting within the last 6 months. Newly qualified applicants are also welcomed. Internal rotation to nights and weekends is essential to this position. Our unit is in full support of the optional OUH Preceptorship Programme which is available to all newly qualified nurses within the first 6 months of commencing in clinical practice. As your career progresses within our unit through completion of the learning opportunities we offer, you may also be offered funding to study courses at Oxford Brookes University. We also help experienced nurses to develop leadership and management skills, in preparation for Team Leader, Ward Manager or Emergency Nurse Practitioner roles.
