Service Manager, Community Head Injury Service
Overview
Job Description
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced community brain injury rehabilitation practitioner to join the Community Head Injury Service (CHIS) based in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, in a Service Manager role. Established in 1992 CHIS is a well-established, multiple award-winning, national example of best practice in community brain injury rehabilitation. The service provides specialist integrated core community rehabilitation, vocational rehabilitation (VR) (Working Out Programme) and family services. The service receives consistently excellent feedback from clients and was rated as "Outstanding" in an inspection by the Care Quality Commission in March 2019. The post is open to a practitioner from any relevant background (e.g. Clinical Psychology, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, SALT, Social Work ) with extensive community brain injury rehabilitation and management experience interested in taking on the service management role, working with the Clinical Lead, the Service Management Group and whole inter-disciplinary team. Interest from experienced practitioners with less management experience or from experienced service managers with some but not necessarily extensive community brain injury rehabilitation experience will also be considered including the possibility of initial appointment at 8a with a development plan. It is expected that the successful applicant will have an opportunity to pursue their own practice interests working clinically within the service one day a week (e.g. in Clinical Psychology, OT, Couples/Family Therapy, PT, SALT, Social Work, Vocational Rehabilitation, Clinical Research). The post provides an exciting opportunity for someone with a track record of service development to further CHIS's evolution as a service and we would be very happy to hear about a prospective candidate's interests in such areas. The successful applicant will join a friendly and highly experienced specialist inter-disciplinary team with the majority of staff having worked for the service for many years. The overall CHIS inter-disciplinary team comprises 18 staff (approx. 12.5 wte) including occupational therapists, clinical neuropsychologists, a specialist brain injury community practitioner, work placement consultant, physiotherapist, speech and language therapist, family specialist role, rehabilitation assistant support, administration team and access to medical assessment/advice. Referrals are mostly people with head injury (around 60%) or stroke (around 25%) plus smaller numbers of people with other forms of acquired brain injury (e.g. cerebral hypoxic, cerebral tumour, encephalitis, meningitis). CHIS provides a wide range of group programmes, some run by the rehabilitation team, some by Working Out (VR team) and some open to clients of both teams. Please see the service summaries for further information. CHIS has an impressive record of innovation, research and post-qualification teaching, all of which are encouraged and supported. If you are interested in joining us we would be pleased to meet with you and answer any questions you may have about the service and the Service Manager role.
